Stative verbs
Probably you have some questions about the video you saw yesterday. It explained about the differences of present simple and present continuous but in the video talked about the stative verbs too.
The stative verbs refer to mental and emotional states. Stative verbs can’t be used with -ing form. It doesn´t matter if the action is happening at the moment someone is speaking instead of it we can use present simple.
Example:
I have two children (NOT I am having two children.)
The cake smells awful (NOT The cake is smalling awful)
Have and Smell are stative verbs so i didn’t use it with a present continuous form.
Exist a list of this verbs and it’s important memorize it
Hi guys! I hope you have had a good weekend! Today you are going to learn the differences of present simple and present continuous. To learn it watch the following video: https://youtu.be/0H4eVjMdnz4
to understand the topic and the differences between them get focus on the time expressions, adverbs of frequency etc.
Present Simple is used when we talk about routines (the activities that we do regularly.
Present continuous is used when we talk about actions that happen at the moment we are speaking.
Example:
I always do my homework in the afternoons. (this sentences express a routine)
I am doing my homework now in the library ( this actions is happening now)
Pay attentions at the underlined words, they express the time where they are happening.7
How do you feel?
Note: in British English they use have got or has got instead of have or has that are English American form. They have the sane meaning have = have got and has = has got. Example:
she has got a cold. = She has a cold
i have got a cold. = I have a cold
The present continuous exercises that i left below are for homework too. Have a good weekend and take care! see you on Monday.
